Laser Cutting: How Does It Work?

Your Questions Answered

Laser cutting is a very technically advanced process. We work with clients in a wide range of industries, tailoring our laser cutting services to meet each one’s exact needs. How though, are laser cutters used in the industry? Here’s everything that you have ever wanted to know about laser cutting, from how it works to its many benefits. As leading specialists in laser cutting, we are well-placed to give you the information you need.

How does it work?

First of all: what is laser cutting and how does it work? Well, it’s all in the name! It is carried out with a high-power laser.

The Laser works by positioning the material under the cutting head in the area that requires cutting via CNC control on the laser cutting machine, then by focusing a high powered laser source directly onto the metal, utilising a focusing lens within the cutting head for optimum precision. This high powered energy beam is then activated and absorbed by the material, producing extremely high temperatures melting or vaporising the materials. The assist gas then blows the molten metal away leaving a clean cut surface.

Chances are, you have already seen some videos of the process being carried it – but it really is so impressive to watch.

Endless design possibilities

The great thing about laser cutting is that you can cut any shape you like. If you have a simple design in mind, then we will be able to cut that with ease. Have something a little more detailed in mind, with an edge that you could never finish neatly with a standard cutting tool? Then it’s going to be perfect for that too. Laser cutting is so adaptable, and it will give you a high degree of accuracy no matter the complexity of your design.

Quick setup

Something that makes laser cutting so popular is the incredibly quick setup. This makes it ideal for batches of all sizes, but especially for those with smaller orders. Whatever the size of your order, we will be able to meet your demands with ease. We are capable of running 24 hours a day if needed, so you can count on us to deliver what you need, when you need it. If you have multiple batches, the quick setup will allow us to seamlessly move from one part of your order to the next.

Fast turnaround times

Laser cutting is suitable for a wide range of materials, which is another reason it is used by clients in so many different industries. We use fibre laser cutting technology, which allows us to cut a wide range of materials including copper, brass and titanium. We are able to do this at great speed, so you can count on us if time is of the essence.
